I have a Chromecast Ultra. I need to use it in a place with Ethernet connection but too far from stable WiFi signals. I set it up by placing it near the WiFi signal. Everything went fine and I was able to cast video to it.
However, when I move the device to its designated place and plug in Ethernet cable, it no longer works because it cannot connect to the WiFi. The Ethernet cable connects to the same network in which the Chromecast Ultra device was set up in.
Does Chromecast Ultra has to use WiFi, even if it has an Ethernet port?

It turns out that the other end of the Ethernet cable is connected to a defective port on the swtich. After changing it to a different port Chromecast works with Ethernet connection.

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for the follow up. It is working now.
However, I'm wondering if there are ways to set Chromecast to use Ethernet only even if there is WiFi signals? The place I'm using has spotty WiFi connection and that's why I'm using an Ethernet cable to ensure reliable connection.
It seems that Chromecast will connect to WiFi by default. My current workaround is to change the WiFi name so that it cannot connect to WiFi.

Hi kebugcheck,
Sorry for the late response. Chromecast Ultra will always be connected to the WiFi. Ethernet is only used to boost or improve the connection of the Chromecast Ultra. We'll take this as feedback as we are always looking for ways to improve our products and their features.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Not really. As @JenniferV mentioned above, I just want to give a feedback to the product team that maybe in the future generations of Chromecast, it can offer an option like "Ethernet Only" mode.
