Volume and mute buttons not working on Google remote

Volume and mute buttons stopped working on remote. Tried all the troubleshooting suggestions, nothing. Bought a replacement remote and took chrome cast back to factory settings and paired new remote. Mute and volume don’t work on new remote, help!

Hi virnab, I apologize if I’ve already sent a reply. I thought I did but I don’t see it. I have a white Chromecast, I did do a factory reset on the remote and it lit up with a white light. But just when using the remote nothing lights up. I can get the volume to work when I change it to “ Chromecast” in the remote button - volume settings but I prefer to have it use the TV volume.
