What Nest Speakers are compatible as TV surrounds?

Hi guys,

 

I'd seen that Google now advertises the streamer as being compatible with Nest speakers for sound.

 

1) is it just the Google TV streamer or does the original Chromecast with Google TV have the same feature?

2) what speakers are compatible and if they are compatible what is the minimum software version they need?

I understand you've seen recent advertisements about Nest speaker compatibility with the new Google TV Streamer (4K) and are looking for information on how to set up a full TV surround sound system. I would be happy to assist you with this concern.

In response to your questions, I can clarify the following information:

  • The Google TV Streamer (4K) allows Nest Audio (or other Google Cast–enabled speakers) to be grouped with it as a speaker group.
  • That grouping is for audio-only content, not for full “TV sound output” in the same way a soundbar would do—especially not for video apps.
  • For this to work properly, Cast firmware version 1.22 or later is required on the devices.

If you are asking whether the Nest speakers can truly act like a TV speaker (soundbar) for the Streamer, please know that the system does not support that—it only supports casting and speaker-group functionality.
