I recently set up a Google TV Kids Profile for my daughter. She is only 2 years old, so we are ultimately just looking to have a dedicated profile within YouTube for the limiting viewing we let her have.
The issue I'm running into is the same one that @damusa and others posted here: despite allowing the "YouTube for Android TV" app in her Google Kids profile, the app does not appear in her Apps list under her Google TV Kids Profile. It admittedly did at one point but opening it gave me a screen that said I needed to setup YouTube access for her. Although she does not have a Gmail address, she does have a Google Account (through Family Link), with access to YouTube Kids enabled. When I backed out of that screen, the app suddenly disappeared from the apps list.
I confess, this is not time-critical for me right now (although I imagine for others it could be). Because we're still using the device fully supervised with her, one of us can log into our own Google TV profiles, open the YouTube app, and select her YT Kid Profile in the app. That said, this workaround kinda stinks, I'd ideally be able to load up her Google TV kids profile to get to YouTube, especially since we have no control over what ads or promoted content appear on ours, plus at some point years down the road we'll want her to be able to use her supervised profile herself and wouldn't want her to access our adult profiles.
Has there been any development on this? Is there something I'm missing that leads to a solution? Or, should I just pray it gets sorted out in the next 3-4 years? 😅 (I should also add I ran through all the expected generic troubleshooting steps — clear cache, restart, etc. — this genuinely seems to be a issue within the Google TV OS and handling of Kids profiles/apps... or how YouTube Kids got rolled into the primary YouTube app...)
Thank you!
