Wif connection

My Chromecast has worked for years. One day it just stopped working. Nothing has changed as far as my tv or Internet. We tried unplugging it we even set it back to factory settings. I tried setting it up through my Google home app it sees the device but it will not connect to the network.

Hey @Busymom2,

I'm sorry to hear of the problems you are having. Can you tell me which Chromecast model you have? If you have have already factory reset the device and it is still not working and I then check to see if your router needs a software update. You can also try reinstalling the Google Home app to see if that is then able to get it to connect or try connecting from a different device.

Let me know if you are still having issues after that.

I am having the same issues and have tried everything. I have a 4th generation chromecast dongle with remote and it keeps hopping out of wifi signal. I have an older 3rd generation dongle without a remote in another room of the house that is not having this issue.

Hi Cgjustice,

Thank you for posting in the community.

I understand that your Chromecast with Google TV is intermittently disconnecting from your Wi-Fi network. I appreciate the troubleshooting efforts you have completed to find a solution. I'm happy to help you get this back on track.

Before I proceed with further troubleshooting, please answer a few questions:

  • Are you using the latest version of the Google Home app? If not, this Google Nest Help Center article provides helpful instructions: Update the Google Home app.
  • What device are you using to manage your Chromecast, and what is the operating system version (iOS or Android)?
  • Are you getting any error messages on your TV screen or in the Google Home app? If so, exactly what does the error message say?
  • What is the status of the Chromecast LED light when it is disconnected?
  • Have there been any recent changes to your environment, such as a new Wi-Fi network, power outages, or the addition of new smart devices?
  • Is your Chromecast linked to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network?
  • How far from the router is your Chromecast, and how does that compare to the distance of your 3rd generation device?
  • What specific steps have you taken to restore the Chromecast connection to your Wi-Fi network?

Please keep me posted with those details so I can help you find the best solution.

Best regards,

Virna
