I have several displays in hallways.  I would like to restrict who can see the chromecast device  and who can cast to the displays.

ANYONE that is on the same network as the Chromecast devices can cast to them and you can't restrict that.

The only way around that is to put your Chromecasts on a network that you do not share with anyone.  Check with your internet provider.  It may be possible for your router to make multiple WiFi networks.  Then, put your Chromecast devices on one network and let everyone else login to the other network.

Hi PAM302,

A Chromecast device is designed for easy use within a home environment. The only way to limit who can cast to the device is to separate the device on a different WiFi network from others.

To restrict who can see the Chromecast device and who can cast to the displays, you can follow these steps:

  1. Set up a Guest Mode PIN: Guest Mode allows anyone within range of the Chromecast device to cast to it without being on the same Wi-Fi network. However, you can set up a 4-digit PIN to limit who can cast to the device. To do this, open the Google Home app, select the Chromecast device you want to secure, and go to Guest Mode > Set up PIN.

  2. Enable device notifications: By enabling device notifications, you can receive alerts when someone tries to cast to the Chromecast device. To enable notifications, open the Google Home app, select the Chromecast device, and go to Settings > Device notifications.

  3. Use a separate Wi-Fi network: To further restrict access to the Chromecast device, you can use a separate Wi-Fi network that is only accessible to authorized users. This can be done by setting up a separate network for the Chromecast device using a router that supports multiple networks.

  4. Restrict access to the Chromecast device: You can physically restrict access to the Chromecast device by placing it in a secure location or using a lockable cabinet.

By following these steps, you can limit who can cast to the Chromecast device and ensure that only authorized users have access to your displays.
