google chromecast

I have just bought a google chromecast with google tv.  I do not a a suitable phone to download the google app.

I have pugged the cgromecast into my TV and it has given me a code. But at the moment I cannot get it to connect with any device when I press "cast" on my desktop computer.   The direction said press "more" and then "cast", but I can't find "more"

I bought a Chromecast a year ago and successfully installed Google Home on my phone, Deleted the GH app as it all worked without the chunky app taking up space on my phone. Had to change the modem last week and now cannot upload GH....  and keep getting a msg telling me my device can't install it. After many many hours of fruitless searching and trying all kinds of fixes I found a post saying your phone must have Android 8 or higher to run Google Home. Mine has Android 7. So it seems the Chromecast is now a piece of expensive junk? I suspect this is what happened for the poster above too...Google screws the customers again....

SJR,

You have to have a compatible phone or tablet to download the Google Home app in order to setup your Chromecast device.   Unfortunately, you cannot use a computer to setup your Chromecast.

Once you get it setup, you have to use the Chrome browser on your computer.   It sounds like the instructions you have are old.  On current Chrome versions, you go to the menu (three dots in top right) and click on "Cast..."
