not a fan of the new remote

The Google TV Streamer (4K) itself works fine, much like a Roku or Firestick. It’s a bit wider than I’d prefer, but the built-in Ethernet is a nice feature. However, the remote is a major letdown. From the layout to the design of the directional pad, it falls short. Be prepared to miss the OK/Enter button frequently—and often, it even registers a double press unintentionally.

The directional pad is placed at the top of the remote, which feels awkward, especially since most other manufacturers (and even older versions of Android TV) position it below a row of keys for easier, more comfortable access. Now, you have to hold the remote lower in your hand to use it, which feels awkward and unnatural.

Then there’s the tiny OK/Enter button—it’s simply too small for an average-sized thumb to press reliably. Maybe a child’s finger or using an index finger would work better? It’s frustrating enough that I’m considering returning the device. Ultimately, I found the experience unpleasant and ended up switching back to my Firestick because of the remote.

Is there a more traditional remote that can be paired with this new streaming box?

Hi kurtedward,

I appreciate you taking the time to post this over the community space. Thank you for your insights and best effort when providing new ideas and recommendations for your Google TV Streamer Voice Remote. I apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing.

While it might be possible to pair a different remote through certain methods, this could lead to compatibility issues or limited functionality. Therefore, it's not generally recommended to use a remote that isn't specifically designed for your Google TV Streamer.
