Hi poppykidmanbrow,

Thanks for posting in the community. I understand you're having trouble connecting a second-hand Chromecast. Even after various troubleshooting steps, the app still can't find the device. I appreciate the effort you've put into this so far. Help is here!

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

Keep me posted.

i have the 1st generation chrome cast the one that is just a hdmi stick. i held the button on the device until the screen said it was completing a factory reset. after the reset it says to set it up which i try and do through the google home app on my iphone and when it scans for devices it cant locate it and just asks me to scan again. the led light on the stick constantly flashes white. the chromecast is in the room above the wifi router.

Hi there!

Thanks for the follow-up.

  • Is Bluetooth enabled?
  • Have you tried using a different device to set up the Chromecast?
  • Is the "Local Network Access" option enabled? To check this, follow the steps below.
    1. Go to the phone's Settings.
    2. Tap Privacy > Local Network.
    3. You must enable "Local Network Access" for the Google Home app.

Keep me updated.

Regards,

Melany
