I know this is an old thread, but just in case it helps someone else
wandering in here, what finally fixed it for me was to disable "Enhanced
Tracking Protection" for both home.nest.com and accounts.google.com. You
can disable this via the shield ico...
For what it's worth, I followed the instructions in the Reddit post
below to physically disconnect the ribbon that powers the lights in my
Nest

Funny thing is that there appears to be a setting like that for Nest
Wifi

I'd also like to turn the mute lights off. Interestingly, such a setting
