Nest volume too low

I cannot hear a person talking thru the camera, it is muted/barely audible. Person can hear me, but we can barely hear them with phone volume on full.

I'd love some help. No solutions and no sound on my expensive door bell.

This was a replacement nest sent to me as my previous one would never connect to wifi which was confirmed by nest support via video. So it's always been like this since I received the replacement (I suspect a refurbished one)

I did have a look at the little microphone hole and it does not appear to have any blockage or debris.
