100% agree, but I still have some sliver of hope this will get fixed.
Maybe one of the Community Specialists wants to chime in here and prove

I hadn't connected the dots until your post - but now that I notice it,
it always 'resumes' straight into an Ad. Makes me think there's
something defensive in the code to over-ride pausing when an Ad is
running. Pretty disgusting.
Same issue and it persists even after trying the tunein app setting fix.
Google support is beyond useless on this, refusing to even admit there's
a problem and saying "I am really sorry for the inconvenience but we
have completed the troubleshooting"...
