Same here. It's been almost unusable with the puck 5 feet from the device. TV in the room with the router is fine. They were also a hassle to set up with my smart devices. I was being lazy when I bought it...lesson learned.

I wish I could help but am in the same situation with plugs, bulbs etc. after "upgrading" yesterday. I was out in my driveway with a lamp and my phone trying to lock on 2.4ghz. None of the hacks; guest, outside in driveway worked for me.
