The Mini is next to the router, no change. The device was a gift to my daughter for her birthday. we do not know when or where it was purchased. Is there a firmware update that could fix this issue?

Yes, I do have a dual band router. I've attempted set up on both the 2.4 and 5ghz bands. I have 2 first gen Mini's and a google home running. They all work correctly on either network.
