Black bar on left of the screen

This happened today. Rebooted. Power cycled. No avail. I've found a few similar threads on other forums. Is this a known issue?

I did factory reset. Unfortunately it made it worse somehow.

Okay, so, I thought there would be a picture which would add context. That doesn't seem to be showing up. There is a 2" black bar from the edge of the screen. Nothing that has the misfortune of being under it is visible. I believe it's a Gen 1.
