Gen 1 Nest Thermostat battery is dead, I have to buy another 300.00 thermostat?

Good PM,There has been a handful of conversations on this, but no one has address that a 300.00 thermostat needs replaced in 10 years because the battery is dead. Google is just letting this go as tough luck?
