1) The sensor is standalone. You can choose whichever sensor to connect to the thermostat. And no, you have to choose the sensor manually. At least, that how it works for me.2) You can do it through the Nest app. Just go to schedule tab to set up.

Yours look just like mine, but I have an extra blue wires. By any chance, do you have your a/c and furnace in your system? If so, it looks like they will work with Nest
