Nest Learning Thermostat turn off when on holiday and turn back on on the date of return.

You would think this should be a simple task for a Nest Thermostat but so far a solution has eluded me.I have tried setting up home and away assist then check after I am away but then on returning find the heating has turned back on and been running ...
