But has the Chromecast audio firmware been updated in the last 1-2 weeks? If not then it can't be the cause.

My Nest mini is exhibiting similar behaviour, up until 2 weeks ago it worked perfectly when asked to play music. However in addition to not streaming Spotify to Chromecast listed as an external speaker, it will not stream iHeartradio either. That is ...
