Cannot reset Google TV voice remote

I have inserted new batteries and the LED blinks. I cannot reconnect to the Chromecast device therefore I tried the factory reset option for the remote (hold mute and center select button). I held for more than 20 seconds and no flashing LED.
No replies to display.
