Adding Child to Assistant Devices

Hi,

I’ve previously had all my three (young - under 13) kids successfully using voice recognition on multiple Google devices to play music from their individual Spotify accounts etc.

A couple of weeks ago, one of our devices (a display) spontaneously disconnected from our home and I had to reset it and reconnect. Ever since then, the kids have been removed from its voice recognition and cannot be reconnected. Whenever I try via Family Link, it initially says ‘1 device available’ but the. It searches for it and comes back with a message that says that device is ‘offline or not available’.

I have rebooted and reset everything. I’ve removed the voice recognition from all the other devices (and now I cannot re-add the kids accounts to any of these either 🤦🏻‍♂️).

I have deleted our entire Home and restarted. I’ve have also deleted the Google Home and Family Link apps from my phone and reinstalled.

Needless to say….I’m out of ideas! Can you help please?

thanks

Duncan

Have you set the permissions to allow device as well as to allow connections in cast or device or even third party apps settings ?

I’m not entirely sure. Could you tell me where I would do each of these (I’m using iPhone Google Home and Family Link Apps)? Thanks

Hi duncanjsmith72,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I understand that one of your Google Nest Display failures has created a systemic problem: you are now blocked from enabling Voice Match for your children's (under 13) accounts across all your Google Nest devices. The system incorrectly reports that the devices are 'offline or not available,' preventing setup via Family Link, despite your best efforts at resetting and rebuilding your entire Google Home. I appreciate the extensive troubleshooting efforts you have tried to resolve this inconvenience. Don’t worry, help is here.

Thank you  for your participation.

To get started, please provide some more information by answering these questions:

  • Are you using the latest version of the Google Home app? If not, this Google Nest Help Center article provides helpful instructions: Update the Google Home app.
  • Is your smartphone's operating system updated?
  • Are your Google Nest devices connected to the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi network?
  • Is your phone or tablet connected to the same Google Account as your Google Nest devices? To learn more you can check this Google Nest Help Center article: Check which Google Account is linked to a speaker or display
  • Is your Family Link app updated?

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Virna
