All Matter Devices Showing as Offline in Google Home

I have added multiple Matter devices successfully to Google Home via my Google TV Streamer but they all show as "offline" right after I add them.  Even ones that I "shared" that are working fine in Alexa show up as offline.  I have tried multiple reboots of my router, phone, and Google TV Streamer but they are always offline.  What am I missing?

Hi cncb,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are experiencing with your Matter devices connected through the Google TV Streamer (4K) that are showing offline on the Google Home app. I understand how difficult it can be when things don't work as expected. But I appreciate the steps that you are taking to solve the situation. Don't worry; I'm here to help. I just need to ask for some information to provide the solution:

  • What’s the make and model of your smart home devices?
  • What’s the make and model of your mobile device?
  • What Wi-Fi router did you use?
  • Is this your first time setting up a Matter device?
  • Is the Matter device paired with its native app? If it works with its native app, what is the current software version?

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenny

Thanks for the reply.  The majority are Tapo devices (ex. Tapo P110M) but it seems to be happening with all matter devices regardless of brand.  Note that all of these work fine in Alexa and Home Assistant as Matter devices.  Unless there is an easy fix for this, I will probably give up on Matter in Google Home for now.  Thanks.

By the way, Google Pixel 8 and Linksys mesh system but like I said it is working in Alexa and Home Assistant on the same phone and network.

Hi cncb,

Thanks for your reply and the information provided. In this case, you will need to delete and reboot their Google and/or Matter-enabled devices and then re-add them to the Google Home app. After that, check if they still are showing offline on the Google Home app.
Please keep me posted.

Best regards,
Jenny

I have done this many times: remove from Google Home, restart my phone and Google TV Streamer, reset the Matter device, and re-add the device to Google Home.  It adds successfully, but right after that it shows as offline in the devices list.

Hi cncb,

Thanks for your reply. I understand that you already tried the recommended steps, and the Matter device is still offline on the Google Home app. In this case, I kindly suggest you contact the manufacturer for further assistance.

Jenny

This happens with multiple brands and not with other apps (like Alexa), so it certainly seems like a Google Home issue.

Hmm... I just started using Matter devices (blinds) to my smart home and like the original poster I am able to add and use the blinds with the native app, the matter controller, and home assistant but even though Google Home adds the blinds it only shows them online for a few seconds before ultimately going to offline.

My network is a TP-Link M5 Deco mesh and the thread border router is an aqara m100 hub connected via a 2.4 wifi to the decos. And as I said, the Yoolax blind app, home assistant, and the aqara app all talk to the aqara hub via wifi which then does the bridging to the Matter/thread blinds and they all work - just Google home doesn't work.

I tried reconfiguring the Decos to be access points and google home didn't work. I'm now running in router mode on a flat network and google home still doesn't work.
