Can't add someone to household on Home

On the Google Home App, when I try to add someone to my household, it won't let me type beyond the first letter. I receive a suggestion for one letter, then the keyboard disappears so I can't add the person I want to. I've deleted and reinstalled the app, restarted my phone, etc but nothing works! 
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

Another customer reported the exact same thing today, as part of some general comments on the user interface.  They resorted to cutting and pasting the email address rather than typing it.  Also, the email has to be a gmail address.
