Can't log in to https://home.nest.com/login/ from Chrome but can from Safari

I recently migrated our Nest stuff to the Google account based login and SSO.

Since then, I can't log in to https://home.nest.com/login/ on Google Chrome.

I get the "Sign in with Google" page/step/button, click on that, select my Google account, but then get dumped back on the same "Sign in with Google" page.

I'm on macOS and can reproduce this across multiple machines, all on latest Google Chrome (currently 133.0.6943.128).

Ironically, if I use Safari on the affected machines, the login process works fine.

I raised this with Google customer services / support / whatever, who after doing the usual "it's your fault, you need to clear cookies, etc" dance said they'd raised it with "engineering" who would get back to me within 2 days.

That was back on 26th Feb and (shock, surprise, etc) I have not heard back from them.

The problem persists now, weeks later. Is anyone else experiencing this or found a way to fix it?

See this thread, especially the "Allowing third party cookies for `home.nest.com` and `accounts.google.com` did the trick" comment:

Hi cjw296,

Thank you so much for posting. I understand that you’re experiencing trouble signing into the Nest app in your web browser from the Google Chrome browser, unlike Safari, where it works. Don’t worry; it is a pleasure to be able to assist you.

It's great to know you've taken action on the matter by performing some troubleshooting steps. To provide you with accurate information, please help me out by answering the following questions.

  • What is the make and model of your computer?

  • Is this a personal or business computer?

  • What is the web version of the browser you use?

  • Are there any installed antivirus, security, or firewall software?

If you have any additional details or information that might be helpful, please feel free to share them with me.

Regards,

Daniel
