My Nest thermostat keeps randomly changing from 71 to 70 and back again.  Is set on 71. It goes up and down numerous times during the day.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for reaching out in the community. I understand how frustrating it is when your Nest Thermostat starts changing temperatures unexpectedly. Let's work together to figure out what's happening.

To get started, I'd like to ask a few questions to help me understand your setup:

  • Has your Nest Thermostat been recently installed, or was it working correctly before this started?

  • Could you please tell me the specific model of your Nest Thermostat?

  • Have you had any recent maintenance or repairs done on your heating/cooling system or electrical wiring?

  • Where is your thermostat located in your home? (For example, is it in direct sunlight, near a window, or in a drafty area?)

  • Are you using any additional temperature sensors with your Nest?

  • Do you notice the temperature changes more frequently when your heating or cooling system is actively running?

  • Does the temperature displayed on your Nest Thermostat match what you see in the Nest or Google Home app?

I'll be here waiting for your answers so we can get this resolved for you.

Regards,

Kevin

I've had this nest thermostat for several years. It started doing this in this last couple of weeks. I have some screen shots that I can send. But not sure how to attach.

Here is the model number: Display-4.8

No, no, no. Yes, not sure

Hi Grammapat1325,

Thank you for your response. Let's address the temperature fluctuations you're experiencing.

Please try the following troubleshooting steps:

Restart your Nest Thermostat:

  • On the thermostat display, go to Settings > Restart.

  • Allow the thermostat a few moments to restart.

Enable Sunblock:

  • Direct sunlight can affect the thermostat's temperature readings.

  • Google Home App: Open the Home app, select your thermostat, go to Settings > Temperature Preferences > Sunblock, and turn it on.

  • Nest App: Open the Nest app, select your thermostat, go to Settings > Nest Sense > Sunblock, and turn it on.

After completing these steps, please monitor your thermostat. If the temperature fluctuations persist, please let me know, and also note if you observe any other related issues.

I look forward to your update.

Regards,

Kevin

I did the reset and as far as I can tell, it stopped changing.  Sunblock was already on. The history only goes as far as Monday.  For some reason the history is not showing the next day.  It is now taking 2 days. That's why it took me so long to respond.

Hi Grammapat1325,

That's fantastic news! I'm so glad to hear that now the problem stops. It's always reassuring when a problem is resolved.

You're very welcome for the assistance. I'm happy we could point you in the right direction. If you have any further questions or encounter any other issues, please don't hesitate to reach out again.

Regards,

Kevin
