Can't sign into Nest app with Google credentials

dalemwebb
Community Member

Had to reset my phone.  Trying to log back into Nest app.  When I tap SIGN IN WITH GOOGLE, I get this screen:

Nest.pngYou'll notice the "Signed Out" message next to my name.

I AM indeed signed into Google.  Why does Nest think I'm not?

Deleted Nest app and reinstalled; no help.

Additionally, is there a way to add all my Nest "appliances" back WITHOUT having to take them apart and RESCAN them?  THAT'S a pain in the butt.

Evidently, this is a browser/third-party cookie problem.  After enabling exceptions to allow Google.com and home.nest.com to use 3rd party cookies, I was able to log on with my computer.  Still haven't figured out how to solve the problem on my Samsung S23 Ultra or stock Android tablet.

Anyone with any ideas?

@dalemwebb

That's a normal screen. Just click on your account to sign in to the Google Nest app.

I sometimes get a very similar screen when accessing this forum.

And once you log back into the Google Nest app you should be able to see all of your Google Nest devices.

Sorry.  Guess I'm not very bright.  When I tap my Google account > next screen asks me to ALLOW > Click Allow > indicator indicates something is happening > flips to Google search screen in my browser.   Guess I don't know what's happening.

Maybe you're caught in some sort of permissions problem, perhaps with your browser, that is not allowing you to sign on.

What if you go to your browser on your new phone and sign into Google? Then try launching the Google Nest app again.

If you can't resolve it, you could try contacting Support, using the link and instructions in this post:

I am having a similar problem and am following to see posted solutions.  I am using the nest app on an iPhone, using my gmail account. My nest app logs in successfully for approx 5 seconds, I see all my nest items, then it boots me back to the log in screen.

I have exact same problem as Abby. Never had this problem in years, haven’t changed accounts, software all up to date and I’ve tried every troubleshooting suggestion in this forum. Started aug 20, morning.

Any help would be appreciated. Still unable to stay logged into the nest app.

I still had it too. For now mine is working but the steps I tried are ridiculous and google should have fixed this by now. See:

Hey there,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with this. No worries, we'll check this out.

We just want to check what software version you are on your Nest App? And if you already  tried disabling the settings for cross-site tracking? If not, just go to the settings on your iOs device, select the option for Safari then tap Cross-Site Tracking where you turn it off.

Let me know if that helps.

Best,
Edmond

I have the same problem

Hello dalemwebb,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with this. No worries, we'll check this out. If you are able to sign in with your Nest account on your computer that means you should be able to sign in on the Nest app with the same email address and password. Just wanna know what happens after you sign in with the same log information on your computer to the Nest app on your phone. Did you get an error message or you are stuck on a loading screen?

Thanks for the help, @MplsCustomer.

I look forward to your response.

Best,
Edmond

Having similar issues, changed phone number attached to account & it tries to send verification code to the old phone & there’s no where to change phone number 😞. Any suggestions?

@Mmkmh

Basically, you either have to update the phone number used for Two-Factor Authentication BEFORE you change your phone number, or temporarily turn off Two-Factor Authentication BEFORE changing your phone number and then turn it back on after.

How do I turn it off? Every time I try to login it throws me to Google because of the old number

thanks

@Mmkmh
Unfortunately it needed to be done BEFORE you changed your number.

Is it best then to do a reset & set up a new account & password?

@Mmkmh

I don't know. You would then have to factory reset and reinstall everything, with challenges along the way since you cannot remove them from your current account.

Hello Mmkmh,

If you can’t regain access to your phone number after contacting their support, you’ll have to factory reset your Nest products, and then add them to a new account. You’ll have to re-invite people to share access to your home in your new account, and you’ll lose any video history and device settings information.

Thanks for the help, @MplsCustomer.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Regards,
Edmond
