Custom automation script for Google TV

Hi there!

I’m hoping someone can help me. I’m trying to create a custom automation script in Google Home for my TCL Google TV where at a certain time (0430) it turns on, opens the YouTube app and plays a specific video. I cannot seem to get any action command to work that actually opens YouTube and I don’t know what command would work for it to play a specific video via URL. For context, this is for my cat who will regularly wake us up at 430am to play (loudly… endlessly…) and loves cat tv, so I’m hoping that if I can make an automation work to play a video at 430am, we can enjoy a more peaceful sleep 😂

I’ve scoured Reddit and other threads but can’t find a code that works. Is this even possible? Should I use an USB and have the video file on there instead? Any help is appreciated!

Hi NOOTMCGOOT150,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I see you’re having trouble creating an automation script in the Google Home app for your TCL TV to turn on the device at a certain time and open a YouTube app to play a specific video for your cat, who wakes up early in the morning. I appreciate all the detailed information you provided. Let’s work together to find a solution.

I just want to confirm, have you created and run the automation using the Automations Script Editor? If it still doesn’t work, please submit feedback through them so the team can work on this for future Google Home app updates.

Additionally, here is a helpful article to write a scripted Automations with Script Editor that can guide step-by-step through the creation process.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Byron
