Disappointing

I spent months looking into and deciding on what router to update to, after many recommendations I chose the the google nest mesh package. Well it works well with my phone but has been extremely difficult to re-setup nearly all of my home smart devices. Since you can not select between 2.4ghz and 5ghz some of my extremely expensive devices can not be used anymore! Such as the SNOO bassinet! I’m so disappointed, I would return everything and get something that actually works but I’ve now spent hours and hours setting up and changing all my devices. I’m just stuck on a few major things! Really annoying google!

If you still have the old router, set it up with the new SSID and password. Turn off the Nest wifi. Setup your devices. Turn nest wifi back on. Turn off old router.

@Kingmadrone, chiming in to ensure everything is good here. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Best,

I got what I needed done. I think it’s funny that the suggestions are oh just use a different router to fix the issue then use ours! Rather than actually fixing the issue with the router. Just make it an option to shut off 5ghz when needed.

Hello Kingmadrone,

Thanks for the update. It’s great to hear that your issue has been resolved. Please take note that the Google Wifi router uses the same name for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band networks. This means that the Wi-Fi network uses both radio bands. But keep in mind: while both bands can be used, the personal devices (a smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc.) will connect to only one radio band at any given time. Nest Wifi, Google Wifi, or OnHub attempts to select the band that will deliver the best performance for your device. Currently there is no option to manually disable either of the bands or to connect to them separately.

As of the moment, we don't have any news to share about a feature that lets you separate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands for Google Wifi networks. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I also suggest that you send feedback by following this link. Let me know if you have other questions or concerns, otherwise I’ll be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Regards,
Abi
