I am getting frustrated with my Google home device, the assistant on my phone and my new Google Nest.
When asking my assistant to play music on the go, it used to be nice and simple. I ask for it from my phone, Bam, youtube opens, starts playing.
But I recently got a Google Home Nest to see what kinds of things I can do to integrate my home. Good so far. But now that Google Assistant detects a display on my account it wants to automatically ask THAT display to play whatever music I ask for. Despite the fact that I am MILES away from home and just want it to play from my headset.
First thing I thought was just unplug the nest but that means I have to unplug it every time I leave the house. Annoying.
Next I thought maybe I could set the favored device my location, if I am home, great, play from the nest, otherwise, just use my phone. But I have no idea if that is even possible to program in the simplified menus.
Then I tried to add a device, so I can tell Google, Hey, This is my preferred device for playing music. But guess what, you cannot add your smartphone as a device. Therefore, you cannot set it as a preferred music player/video.
/Rant over
Trying to find a solution that would not mean I have wasted my money on this nest home device. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I understand your frustration with the Google Home devices and Assistant integration. It seems like you're facing challenges with music playback preferences and device selection. While you can't directly add your smartphone as a preferred long device you might consider adjusting your default device settings within the Google Home app. Additionally exploring the app's settings for location-based actions could help prioritize your phone for on-the-go music requests. Remember Google's ecosystem evolves so staying updated with app updates and online guides might offer solutions to improve your experience.

I have explored the app. There are no location-based settings for where the google assistant sends video requests.
At this point, it is purely Google's ballgame to allow us to designate a phone as a 'Device' on the home ap like it does with many other compatible devices.
I wasted my money.

I kind of have that issue, but since i guess you had an update the assistant doesn't work on my pixel phone. I add stuff to shopping list and it won't bring it up any more. and all my reminders come up on a calender. and adding things to list seems a bigger hassle than before. I would think an update should make things work better, but i guess I don't work for google
