Google Home Offline App

How is it possible that so many users are dealing with devices showing as “offline” in Google Home even though they work fine in their own brand’s app? Google Home keeps losing connection with them, and there’s no way to remove them. I even contacted Google support, but they didn’t offer any real solution. I’ve unlinked accounts, reinstalled apps—everything—and the offline devices just keep duplicating.

Why doesn’t Google just give us a simple button to remove them? It’s honestly insane.

So, do you want to remove unresponsive/offline devices or reconnect them?

  • To reconnect them I would go to Settings/Home Settings > Works with Google and then reconnect the brand app to Google Home.
  • To remove or delete devices I would have thought that unlinking the app to Google Home, closing Home and opening it again would have got rid of them. Just check in the brand's app in their settings that it and Google third party connection has been severed.
  • Or you could just hide devices in another home

Unlinking TP-Link Kasa doesn't really help, most of the time it duplicates the devices by keeping the offline ones with the new ones and at some point the new ones also get offline... creating a new home every time this happens is just not user friendly and you'd lose all of your settings which is ridiculous.

This is clearly a bug that Google needs to address.

Did you delete the old devices (and NOT reset them) from the Kasa app? And then Reconnect to Google Home?

All devices do go offline from time to time. It could be your Wi-Fi or internet or the Google or Kasa servers that are at fault.

I did not delete my devices from the Kasa app, they work fine there, my Google Nest thermostat also works fine so this is not a Wi-Fi issue...

My request to Google is to provide a way to remove devices when they show as offline, regardless of the cause. Customers shouldn’t have to keep deleting and reconnecting devices repeatedly just because they go offline frequently.

You will always have devices attempting to connect to Google Home if they are still in the Kasa app.

  • The only way I can think of getting around this is to have a separate Kasa account that isn't connected to Google Home and place your old devices there.

I have a few Kasa devices and haven't had any problems except that they're a little slow to respond compared to my Tuya devices.

If I use the Kasa app "solves" the issue since I am not relying on the Google Home App, but then... why would Google let you connect to third-parties if it can't work properly?

Apparently, Google removes offline devices after 30 days... how crazy is this solution? lol

I don't know who is responsible for making sure that a brand's device works with Google.

  • Have you scrolled down the list of brands in Works with Google? I would think they would be at least 500 apps there to be updated, so I think it would be on Kasa's shoulders to make sure everything works as it should.

Maybe you should contact TP-Link to see if they have a solution.

I have 3 homes connected and 1 of the 3 (for no reason) is now offline. I have no access (from NEST App) or Google home.

NOTHING has changed, passwords, devices, equipment, network, etc.   How does a 'Home' go offline and why is't there better guidance on what causes this?

"Why doesn’t Google just give us a simple button to remove them? It’s honestly insane." 100% Agreed!
