I've been very underwhelmed by the Gemini integration with Google Home. How do I remove Gemini integration from Google Home?

There is no way to do that unfortunately. Once you switch your home to Gemini for Home voice assistant, it can't switch back to Google Assistant.

What's wrong with it?

Do you live in the US?

The Gemini integration gets stuff wrong a lot. Particularly the summaries of what it's seeing on the camera.

Yes, I live in the US.

It's absolutely awful. Takes ten sentences to tell me that it can't tell me the weather. Before Gemini, I could easily ask the weather or wind speed (this is just one example). And don't get me started on The fact that it has never provided an accurate ETA to a specific destination. I cannot trust anything that Gemini tells me. It's absolutely a waste, and so frustrating that I already bought these speakers, not knowing the trash that Google was going to dish out.

It's the worst. In 2 months has never given me the right temperature. Says it sunny and 80 when it is a cold rainy night....aaarrrgh!

I agree 100%!

It gives wrong answers all the time. Can't trust with the weather. Even temperature, makes a big difference. The other day, it told me the Prime Minister of Canada is Justin Trudeau 😒😒😒😒

So I am afraid to ask anything else because I'll need to double check everything. What a waste!

First thing I noticed after change. Hey Google play my music.. previously played my playlists. Now all ive gotten for the the last two days is a jonas brothers song. Simple things like hey google turn tv off turned into an argument. I cant get rid of it soon enough if ever (ive tried)

I am in the US and Gemini for Google Home tells me that today is Friday, December 14. While today is the 14th, it is most certainly NOT Friday. I can not have a device that cannot do something as simple as read a calendar accurately!  It's credibility is at ZERO with me. Basically, it sucks!

It is a terrible update and I now can’t remove it. Very frustrating!

Absolutely agree, my Google Home is a mess, I can't control anything like I used to. Every light bulb, speaker, screen, television, worked with Google now it doesn't. When will you update Gemini in Spanish?

Will I have to change everything for Alexa?

I had to delete the entire home from Google home also delete all the devices from home Google and factory rest all devices and reconnect everything now my Google is back to original. I really hope we have the option to opt out to use Gemini in the future. "Do not fix something that isnt broken". Google is perfectly fine without the gemini in my opinion.

Gemini ruined my Google home.  it is pretty much unusable now and I can't remove it?  Google, you suck!

Try this.  Worked for me but is tedious depending on how many devices you have.  Don't do Nest or TV as requires specific steps.  Go to Support and open a ticket for those.

Per Google Chat Support >> Easiest way to get back to the old Assistant is to create a new home in Google Home App.  This is using an iPhone.

>On the Home screen, click the + button in the top right, next to your profile icon, then select Home at the bottom of the types list.  Follow the prompts to create a new home in the app.

>Once that is done, move a few speakers or devices that listen to and reply to your commands.

>Select each device, then the Settings cog well, then Device, Information,  then Home, select your new home location, go through the prompts, then done.

>Check your devices in the Home screen and be sure they are in the section ABOVE any listed under the "Local Devices" header at the bottom.  Any listed under Local Devices (mainly speakers attached to the same WiFi), Google Home "copied" over on your phone, but aren't on the GH server so not controllable if not on your home WiFi - ie, travelling away from your actual home.

>Move the next speaker-type device.

>Once they are moved, ask "Hey Google, who are you?" it should answer "I'm your Google Assistant".  If it does, your good to go to move all the other devices to the new home.

>Two caveats, be careful when going back and forth between the two homes, the selection bubble at the top will try to get you to ok Gemini in the new home, DON'T DO IT!  Toggle back and forth until you get into the "old" home to continue with the moves.

>Other caveat is moving Nest Thermostats are cumbersome, you need to factory reset them totally delete them from your Google server account OR follow a lengthy "Move Workflow" process.  Search “google home nest move workflow” which should take you to a Google Nest Support page.  I decided to leave the thermostats alone in the old home since I use the Nest app to control them occasionally.

>I'm back to GA NO GEMINI and at least now have control over all my Nest Speakers and can access my Apple Music Playlist without any issues like I had with Gemini.  Hope this works for everyone.  Good Luck!

If I have to go through all of that to get my 22 smart lights and 16 smart plugs to work again I will just flip switches for a while. While I figure out which other company's smart speakers work better. Not a big fan of Amazon, but they may be the cheapest option. Sadly I will have to replace 6 smart speakers to do it. May as well replace my android phone as well at that point. Then I may have to look at Apple. The worst part is all of these companies are owned by the same investors. Who all want the same thing, your info and your money. They don't care if I get the right lights to turn on or off. They can make more money if I do switch. That just may be their plan.

Same, a simple fix to go back to assistant would have been more than welcome

See my reply to Acorn00 below.

Today, Sunday 12/28/25, it told us it was Friday 12/26/25.  And one day this past week it said the current temp was 41 degrees with a forecast high of 46, when in fact it was 32 degrees outside.  Artificial - yes.  Intelligence - no.

See! This is a HUGE problem. I can't believe Google isn't doing anything about this.

This is terrible! Gemini cannot tell me the name of the song that it's playing right now from youtube!

I want the old assistant to come back.

I live in the US. It's egregiously bad. Almost every single Smart light request takes a full ten to fifteen seconds to occur. I can tell it to the Living Room lights on, watch it transcribe it, walk over to my phone, give the command to Siri on my phone and the lights are fully responded before Gemini has even stopped "thinking" about what I want to happen. It's absolutely awful.

This doesn't relate to the problem.

I don't have a camera. I want to revert to the old assistant.

Good morning, I would need help on removing Gemini assistant on my mini Nests. I live in Canada and the assistant doesn't understand French and I can't change the voice. I want to go back to the original assistant.

From @David_K comment and RECOMMENDED ANSWER ‎(October 18) above it's not possible to revert back to the Google Assistant on Home speakers after moving to Gemini.

He has a link...

I had to reset my speakers and the Home app.

Can't do it☹️

Same here. I’m British living in Vancouver and I used to have my Google devices set to French as it helps me practice, now they’re all in US English!

I really dislike Gemini.

We don’t need help turning off Gemini for home camera features. We need help turning off Gemini and restoring home assistant. The Gemini update is so faulty and buggy. It’s a huge downgrade from assistant. It fails to do most things that assistant could do without any problems, like identify songs currently playing, turn off lights, tell the time or launch pairs apps like Spotify. You guys suck.

This is absolutely awful. It doesn't get anything correct. I cannot speak to it in other languages. I have to repeat things five or six times and you don't have the option to revert back to Google Assistant. If you wanted us to test this, give us the option to go back. Not make it permanent. This is terrible. It is not ready. Why would you even roll it out?

Well that wasn't hard at all to find. 🙄

How can I revert back to the original Google assistant experience on Google Home. It is a complete mess right now.

Why isn't there a way to switch back to Google Assistant on my nest mini? Gemini is trash. I don't want it on my device anymore. I've factory reset my device multiple times. Why isn't there a way to revert to the original settings?

@Geminiistrash

The old Google Assistant will eventually be replaced by Gemini everywhere. No one will have the option not to have the new AI.

I've resisted the urge to change too, but when I found out we won't have the option I signed up to Google Home Early Access.

So it's either now or never.

"Never" will be the option for me most likely. I've been a Google Home for about 12 years, and Google ecosystem user since Gmail beta. I will likely intentionally be removing all of my Google products and services from my various homes, and switching all of my cloud data services to a competitor. The increasingly scummy business practices with regard to not warrantying hardware that is sold with specific features Is leading me to look into class action lawsuit likelihood. G has violated their warranty of merchantability in egregious ways over the past 5 years and such violations are objectively increasing in frequency and egregiousness.

So my nest is bricked because google put out a **bleep** ass AI assistant that cant get even the most simple tasks right? What ever I ask it to do it starts playing some random YouTube music station or laughing into a Ted Talk about some random topic. GEMINI SUCKS
