I've been very underwhelmed by the Gemini integration with Google Home. How do I remove Gemini integration from Google Home?

What's wrong with it?

Do you live in the US?

The Gemini integration gets stuff wrong a lot. Particularly the summaries of what it's seeing on the camera.

Yes, I live in the US.

It's absolutely awful. Takes ten sentences to tell me that it can't tell me the weather. Before Gemini, I could easily ask the weather or wind speed (this is just one example)?

This doesn't relate to the problem.

How can I revert back to the original Google assistant experience on Google Home. It is a complete mess right now.

Agreed. How do I revert to the original Google assistant on Google Nest Hub?

There is no way to do that unfortunately. Once you switch your home to Gemini for Home voice assistant, it can't switch back to Google Assistant.

Why isn't there a way to switch back to Google Assistant on my nest mini? Gemini is trash. I don't want it on my device anymore. I've factory reset my device multiple times. Why isn't there a way to revert to the original settings?

@Geminiistrash

The old Google Assistant will eventually be replaced by Gemini everywhere. No one will have the option not to have the new AI.

I've resisted the urge to change too, but when I found out we won't have the option I signed up to Google Home Early Access.

So it's either now or never.

"Never" will be the option for me most likely. I've been a Google Home for about 12 years, and Google ecosystem user since Gmail beta. I will likely intentionally be removing all of my Google products and services from my various homes, and switching all of my cloud data services to a competitor. The increasingly scummy business practices with regard to not warrantying hardware that is sold with specific features Is leading me to look into class action lawsuit likelihood. G has violated their warranty of merchantability in egregious ways over the past 5 years and such violations are objectively increasing in frequency and egregiousness.

So my nest is bricked because google put out a **bleep** ass AI assistant that cant get even the most simple tasks right? What ever I ask it to do it starts playing some random YouTube music station or laughing into a Ted Talk about some random topic. GEMINI SUCKS

Are you guys prepared for the class action lawsuits that are to come??

Personally I would just open up and make a new Google account that way I can reset the speakers thoughts?

Anyone figure out how to revert or remove Gemini assistant from all devices? It's really terrible.

1. "Good Morning" automations aren't followed from the app settings:
- It will display what Google is saying on screen i.e. "Today's weather in ..." and not continue on to the news sometimes
- It will start talking to me from 1 device and then mid-automation start playing from another device in the house which is pissing off the family
- It will not follow the news sources selected in the iOS Google Home app
2. Gemini constantly mishears words
- Constantly gets confused with words or mishears what we're saying. It's way worse than the old assistant
3. Google Home Max speakers now have lipsync issues
- I have 2 Google Home Max speakers which are plugged in via 3.5mm audio cable to remove latency, however, now there's a distinct 1-2 second latency and lipsync with video is completely off
- This didn't happen prior to upgrading to Gemini
- It also doesn't make any sense that Gemini should effect it since audio source is via cable and not wi-fi

This latest upgrade to Gemini assistant is terrible and has completely borked our whole home setup.

Google shouldn't be rolling out mass updates like this without actually testing their systems.

It's making Google home useless. And when I simply ask a question, like how to spell something, I get an automated answer telling me it's not included in my subscription. What the f*** no wonder they won't let us go back to Google Assistant cuz they're planning to make us pay for it

GEMINI IS TRASH!! I lost "Continued Conversations," which was the Main Reason I chose Google over Alexa.

@Jcwmax777

Alexa has continued conversation too. It's called Follow-up Mode.

But it's even better than Google's feature as you can select which individual speakers you want to use it with.

This was 5 years ago when I bought hubs for my entire house. I did a side-by-side test comparison with Alexa and. I also had each for about a couple weeks and close past with daily tasks, responses in accuracy

I did a side-by-side comparison. I used each one for a couple weeks and google home surpassed with flying colors, Alexa. With responses, Accuracy and much faster.

@Jcwmax777

I've got Nest Hubs too. It's worth having both systems.

Do you have a Nest Hub Max?

I'm starting to consider Alexa now.

This!!! I don't want to chat with it for 10 minutes, but I'd like to be able to ask a followup question without having to say HEY GOOGLE over and over. Plus the new answers are not the same quality. I'm so mad. I didn't realize I couldn't revert back after trying it.

Same here.  And this was after doing 2 weeks of research to make sure everything is needed worked with gemini.  It never occurred to me that google would remove something as simple as continued conversation.   Now I have 6 home devices that I HATE working with.   Something as simple as me saying thank you after a task, and hearing "no problem".    The ONLY benifit I currently see (or rather, hear) is a NORMAL voice, rather than the almost robotic voice of G.A....

I believe Amazon Alexa launched continued conversations recently.

Updates to the home hub are HORRIBLE. I use the hub just about every morning for the last few years to set my timers while among coffee i often ask for a "4 min and 15 second timer" this has worked for years and now this Gemini garbage can't even handle basic assistant functions. It's already bad enough that they went from a super fast super responsive local Google Assistant model and transition to this slow dumb and useless "Gemini Assistant" I'm not getting anything better just downgrade after downgrade. Do the people that make these products even use them???? Did they fire all their QA staff for AI bots that can't do **bleep**?

Yikes. I have serious concerns about Google forcing us all to use Gemini for Home. LLMs hallucinate and can behave erratically. This isn't something we have the technology to solve right now. We need automations to be reliable.

If they force this on us and it doesn't work I'm going to be more than a little furious. I've invested a lot in my currently working solution. Gemini may be great as a general LLM, but as a reliable assistant? Someone is getting ahead of themselves at Google.

The reality of the cloud-based llms being forced via Google's offering is very much a reality currently. I am planning to abandon all my Google products and services across the board which represents about 20 years of usage (for many reasons obviously), and researching class action opportunities.

I agree with all that has been posted here.  Gemini is awful!  It's slow, can't understand the simplest of commands, and feels like voice recognition software from 2004.  This is supposed to be the future??  Maybe it's time to move to Alaska and live off the land.

I too would like to express my frustration with Gemini. On my phone when I say "take me home" rather than opening directions I get text telling me how I could Google it or open maps. Wtf. Still I was dumb enough to put it on my home devices thinking I could revert it like I am able to on my phone. Big mistake. Google please allow me to undo this. I will be your most vocal critic.

I just called Google and got it! It is a bit of work but well worth it. First unlink any Google speakers or Google displays from your home. Next factory reset all Google speakers and Google displays. Next go to your settings and leave the home. Make a new home and be very careful not to accept anything Gemini. Finally relink your devices.

That sounds like a royal pain in the arse, especially given how many Google devices I have throughout the hoe ... but thank you for this solution. I'm going to give it a go this weekend ... so wish me luck!

Please be sure to follow up and let us know if this works. If it does, I am spending a few hours this weekend doing it.

It did work! I do want to note I did not unlink any of my "work with Google" devices. I do have two homes in the app so maybe that made a difference but when I remade the home profile with the same name all my Works with Google devices were back. I had to put them in the correct rooms, and add them to the house as opposed to them being at the bottom but I was extremely pleased not to need to relink all of that.

"Next go to your settings and leave the home."

Where is this step?  In the device after reset?
