It seems that the long awaited option to control permissions on google home has finally arrived (it should have been there from the start though...): https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/15681236?hl=en
So I joined the public preview in the google home app, and invited my 16yr old daughter so she can play her own spotify by voice recognition.
However, I do not get the option to invite her as MEMBER and it only provides full access to everything in my home, including the delete devices etc etc.
Detailed information on HOW to specify the access level is nowhere to be found, only that you should be able to. Why is this still so obscure? So may posts that this is a requirement nowadays...
It drives me crazy that this is so difficult; I would really appreciate showing me how this is done. (or admit that this is still not working and google need to do there #$%$ homework so I can stop trying and looking)

When you invite them to the home, do you not see this screen right after entering the email address?

No this screen is not seen.

I'm having same problem, and I definitely don't get this option. Have tried uninstalling all the apps and reinstalling, have removed her and tried re-inviting her. So frustrating. (Also having similar, but different, problem with other child and not having an option to change him from supervised to unsupervised in family link - he's 14!).

Is your child's account a supervised account?

Same issue. No access level to choose. Not a supervised account.
