Incorrect light colors with Philips Hue lights.

I have a routine that sets my Philips Hue light colors to Dark Red (completely red color, with zero green or blue channels). I have noticed that often it randomly sets some lights to orange-red instead (green and blue channels are small, but non-zero). The lights affected by the issue are always different every day, but if affected, they cannot be changed to Dark Red even when explicitly asked again through the Nest speakers (so it's not a routine issue, but Nest or Home app issue). Even if I simply ask the assistant to "Set all lights to Dark Red" and repeat the request, around half of the lights still end up orange-red. It's like Google Nest/App thinks they are Dark Red already, but they clearly are visibly not and even in the Philips Hue app they show up as orange-red, not completely red.
I have also tried to change them to completely red manually through the Home app, but the color wheel only goes to Orange-Red. The more extreme colors that are available in the Philips Hue app are inaccessible. I can set them to completely red color only through the Philips Hue app.

Ideally, we should be able to specify RGB values of the color we want.

Hi Marha01,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that your Google Home routine for setting your Philips Hue lights to dark red is not consistently working as expected. Instead, some lights are randomly set to orange-red and then cannot be corrected to dark red via your Google Nest speaker, even with repeated requests. The details you've provided about the behavior within the Google Home app and your troubleshooting efforts are very helpful. It's also important to note that the lights operate correctly through the Philips Hue app itself. No worries, help is here.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • Is your Google Home app updated?
  • Do you own Philips Hue light bulbs that are successfully set up on the same WiFi network as your mobile device and your Google Nest speakers?
  • Did you assign a different name to each one of your lights?
  • Are you having the inconvenience with a specific group of lights assigned in a certain room?
  • Have you successfully linked your Philips Hue account to your Google Nest speaker via the Assistant Settings?
  • Are any of the voice commands from Google Home working with your Philips Hue lights? (for example: turn them on or off, turn the brightness up, etc.)
  • Have you recently factory reset your Google Nest speakers or Philips Hue bridge?
  • Are your lights connected to plugs or switches?
  • Are you using a Philips hub version 1 Bridge (circular) or version 2.0 Bridge (square)?
  • Are you using the same Google account as the primary account from within the Google Home app?

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Virna

Hi Marha01,

Thank you for your timely response and the comprehensive information you've provided. I really appreciate it so that I can better assist you.

Please try the following recommendations to get your Google Home routine to set your Philips Hue lights to dark red:

Reboot Google Nest speakers:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the Google Nest speaker.
  • Wait a few seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cable back into the Google Nest speaker.

Reboot the WiFi router.

  • Unplug the router from the power source for about 30 seconds and then plug the power source back into the router.
  • Wait for the router to finish rebooting (normally takes about 1 or 2 minutes.)

Reboot the Philips Hue Bridge:

  • Unplug the Philips Hue bridge from the power source for about 30 seconds and then plug the power source back into the bridge.
  • Wait for the bridge to finish rebooting (normally takes about 1 or 2 minutes.)

Once everything is back on the network, try the following voice command:

  • Voice command: “Turn on <light name>.”

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Virna

I have rebooted the speakers, wi-fi and Hue bridge. The problem still persists.
