Language problem with my google home assistant regarding bilingual function for English and Japenese

Scenario 1:
I set my google assistant language:
first - Japanese
second - English (United States)

Actual
I summon google and ask in English -> google home responds in Japanese
I asked google assistant via chat in English -> google assistant responds in Japanese

Expected
I summon google and ask in English -> google home should respond in English
I asked google assistant via chat English -> google assistant should respond in English

Scenario 2:
I set my google assistant language:
first - Chinese
second - English (United States)

Actual
I summon google and ask in English -> google home responds in English
I asked google assistant via chat in English -> google assistant responds in English
I summon google and ask in Chinese -> google home responds in Chinese
I asked google assistant via chat in Chinese -> google assistant responds in Chinese

Expected
SAME, which is correct

Scenario 3:
I set my google assistant language:
first - Japanese
second - Chinese

Actual
I summon google and ask in Chinese -> google home responds in Chinese
I asked google assistant via chat in Chinese -> google assistant responds in Chinese
I summon google and ask in English -> google home responds in Japanese
I asked google assistant via chat in English -> google assistant responds in Japanese
I summon google and ask in Japanese -> google home responds in Japanese
I asked google assistant via chat in Japanese -> google assistant responds in Japanese

Expected
SAME, which is correct. Except for English, I expect that the assistant will either respond in English or not respond at all.

Conclusion:
There is a bug; that English and Japanese are registered as one . That bilingual support is doing fine with "English + Chinese" and "Japanese + Chinese" but not for "English + Japanese"

My Goal:
My goal is set my google home assistant to always speak in Japanese (like, telling the weather and fortunes daily) except when I talk to her in English (like asking what is it now).

Hi avorigami,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

A few things: Is this Google assistant on your phone or Nest speaker/display? Was this working before or this is the first time that you are trying it. If it’s a Nest speaker/display which model is it? What troubleshooting steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Juni

Is this Google assistant on your phone or Nest speaker/display?
Both. But if I have to choose, I'd to choose a priority, I would want my google assistant on my google home fixed instead.

Was this working before or this is the first time that you are trying it.
I am not sure if it worked before. That is that day that I first tried the bilingual mode.

Which model?
This kind of google home https://photos.app.goo.gl/cRse7KftDskjvL5X8

I did is above. What I did not do is try to reset my google home cause I think the problem is in google assistant. You can see in my post that even if I type it in my phone's google assistant, English questions are being replied in Japanese.

Hi avorigami,

Thanks for the update. While Google Assistant can recognize either language, it can’t understand them if they are mixed when it's asked questions. For example, “Hey Google, set a timer for drei Minuten” would not be recognized. It would seem like we need to revert your Google Home back to its default and original settings by doing a factory reset. Here's how.

Once the set up is done, set the first language to English and the secondary to Japanese.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

I still need assistance.

The previous post did not help at all. Because he thought I am doing mixed language, I am not.

Hey there avorigami,

Apologies for the confusion and the delayed response. I now understand that your concern about the Japanese and English language might be considered as one.

How about if we try to only use the English language for 1 and 2 or Japanese only for 1 and 2. If the issue persists, let's do the factory reset to revert your Google Home and its built-in Google Assistant to its default and original form. It would also be of big help if you could re-install your Google Home app and set up your Google Home again.

To do the factory reset, do this:

  1. On the back of your device, press and hold the microphone mute button for about 15 seconds.
  2. Your Google Home will let you know that it's resetting.
  3. Reboot your Wi-Fi router/modem.
  4. Reboot phone.
  5. Proceed with the set up.

Thanks,
Dan
