Linking Google home with SmartThings error.

Jimmiejamz

I can only halfway link my google home app with SmartThings app to control my Samsung TV.  After completed the “works with google” set up.  I get to an authorize screen in SmartThings, I click authorize and then nothing happens in Google home.  In Smartthings it indicates that google voice assistant is linked, however in google home, smarting a are not linked, but the option at the top to link it again.  It’s just a never ending loop. I have searched this issue with no answers, I am beyond frustrated.

Hi Jimmiejamz,

I have no answer for you, but I'm seeing the same eternal loop  with Google Home and IRobot.  The link has been in place and working fine for months, but it stopped working 3 weeks ago.  I removed the link and went to set it up again, but am now stuck in eternal loop like yourself.  IRobot says it is connected. Google Home goes through all the link screens, flashes and the goes back to the start.  It always says linking with IROBOT but then fails to do so.   I wondered if Amazon taking over IRobot were blocking Google, but as you have the same problem,  it looks like a Google software issue somewhere.  Sorry I can't help, but you are not alone in your frustration.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing details about the issue here. I know how challenging it is when you're having issues linking your SmartThings account to the Google Home app. A few questions: when did the issue start? What is the make and model of your phone/tablet? Have you tried using a different phone/tablet?

Please try these steps below:

  1. Go to https://goo.gle/2OGzpIR then log in to the same account that you use on your Google Home/Nest device.
  2. Scroll down at the bottom to find "Linked Accounts."
  3. Remove/ Unlink SmartThings if you find it there.
  4. Once done, try to link again your SmartThings account to the Google Home app.

Let me know if that works.

Cheers,

Muddi

Thanks Muddi, I deleted IRobot from my linked account. Went through set up again, still same failure. I get the enter password for irobot, get the final OK on irobot side, then Google says connecting, after a 20 second or so wait of watching a spinning circle,  a dark screen flashes on and off, no chance to read it and it does not connect. If I go into linked accounts, the irobot icon is back saying connected. If I go into irobot app for voice control it says connected to google, but the home app does not show it on main screen as it always did, the robots are not there.  The main screen of the home app still has irobot as potential items to link.  The system has been working for months flawlessly, but in the last month if I tried to use the voice activation,  all I got was irobot is not available, please try later, or I cannot reach irobot.  It was because of this that I hoped deleting the link and setting it up again would work,  but now I cannot get it to set up. Phone is Samsung galaxy s21 5g. Also tried on Samsung Galaxy tab s7 as fresh install of apps.   I try to set them up a few times everyday  but the home app simply refuses to put anything on the front screen where all my other  "works with Google" items are.

Hi ArgoGardener,

Thanks for the information. To confirm, have you tried using a different phone/tablet?

Hi Muddi,

Yes, I have tried it on Samsung Tablet that had never had the IRobot app installed on it.

All was working fine until a few weeks ago when Google just kept saying IRobot was unavailable.  I am stuck in an eternal loop of selecting Irobot to connect,  getting a screen that asks me to sign into Irobot to link, getting to  linking loop icon that rotates for quite a while, then the screen flashes and I'm back to the home page of Google Home app and nothing has changed.  The option to link IRobot is still along the top band, the robots are not in the "linked items" section where they used to be.  My mower is connected, my washing machine is connected, my lights are connected, but IRobot just keeps failing.  Both Irobot and Google Home seem to think its connected, but nothing is there  in the front menu and if I try to use voice commands to clean the hall etc, I get the response of "I don't know, but I found this on the web"

Hi ArgoGardener,

Thanks for the added information. Have you tried reaching out with iRobot support to check if they're receiving similar issues? Also, could you try linking a different iRobot account to check if you will have the same issue.

Cheers,

Muddi

Irobot suggest the problem is at your end, now you suggest it may be at their end and I'm stuck in the middle.  As I can only have one IRobot account, the robots are linked to it as part of their guarantee there is no way of "trying another Irobot account".   A mismatch between accounts seems unlikely as it has been working perfectly since I got the units in the Spring.   I have though successfully linked them to a borrowed Alexa unit,  but its interface is awful and needs long speeches to get anywhere and then they clean the wrong rooms.    I will continue to just use the IRobot App and routines and give up on the voice control, maybe one day it will just start working again as mysteriously as it stopped.

Hi ArgoGardener,

Could you please provide the cast firmware version of your Google Nest speakers?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings and then Device information.
  5. Under "Technical information," find Cast firmware: X.XXX.XXXXX.

Best,

Princess
