Migrating from nest to google

Cflemin7

I’m having trouble migrating my Nest account to Google. Every time I try to start the migration process, both on my iPhone and Mac, I keep getting the message “unexpected error.” I currently have three thermostats and two cameras connected to my Nest account. Both my Nest and Google accounts use the same email address. What might I be doing wrong?

Ive also tried doing this in both Safari and Chrome.

Hi Cflemin7,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I’m sorry to hear that you’re encountering an error message during the migration process. I’m here to help!

Since you mentioned using the same email address and trying to migrate through the web interfaces as well, here are a few troubleshooting steps that might resolve the inconvenience:

  • Ensure Software Updates: Make sure your mobile device or computer has the latest software updates installed. Outdated software can sometimes cause compatibility issues during migrations.
  • Reinstall Nest App (iOS): Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Nest app. This can sometimes clear up any temporary glitches that might be preventing the migration.
  • Enable Third-Party Cookies (Web): Ensure your browser allows third-party cookies from the Google account. These cookies are often necessary for smooth account integrations.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Thank you very much for this. I redownloaded the app on my phone and it worked. My smoke detectors did not come over with the merge, only my thermostats and cameras? The Smoke detectors are now only showing on the "next app" and not "google home".

Hi Cflemin7,

Thanks for the reply!

I'm glad to hear the inconvenience was resolved. As you mentioned, you can see your thermostat on the Google Home app. However, please note that the Nest Protects can only be set up and controlled through the Nest app. This is because some features, specifically related to smoke detection, are only available within the Nest app.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
