Migrating to GOOGLE HOME

My nest app uses my Email # while my GOOGLE home uses #.  I have used NEST thermostat and smoke detectors for years with my NEST app;  The migration I am being forced to undertake to GOOGLE HOME is simple untenable.  I try from NEST and get that my NEST is already linked to a google account (?).  From the Google assistant side, I get close to migrating, but after signing into NEST I get the OPPS, SOMETHING WENT WRONG.  PLEASE TRY AGAIN.   WTF????    This should not be this difficult in this age of AI.    Do I REALLY have to climb up to all of my smoke detectors and reset them as well as my thermostat?  Do I really have to lose of of my THERMOSTAT settings?   Please help me understand this.....

We migrated from a Nest Account to a Google Account in 2020 and are not experts at this.

It sounds like you have been using a non-gmail account to log into the Google Nest app for years, and you also are logging into the Google Home app with a gmail account, and are trying to migrate to that gmail account and are getting an error.

If that is the case, this is what Google Nest Help says (from the link above):

To use the Google Account that's linked to another Nest Account.

1. Sign into the Nest app with your Nest Account [this is your old non-gmail account].
2. Disconnect all your devices.
3. Sign out of the Nest app.
4. Select Sign in with Google > sign in with the linked Google Account.
5. Reconnect your devices [the ones you removed from the Nest app].

We did NOT have to do this when we migrated, but other users in this forum have reported the above process works.

Thank you so much for your ptompt reply.   I tried 'removing' a device form NEST but those devices never showed up when I went back to GOOGLE account....  do I have to reset them to FACTORY?  I fear that is what I have to do and one of my smoke detectors is woefully out of reach without a large ladder ;(

 

After you removed ALL of your Google Nest devices from the Google Nest app while signed on with your old non-gmail account, did you then sign out of the Google Nest app, and then sign back onto the Google Nest app, using the "Sign in with Google" option, using your gmail account, and then add back each of those Google Nest devices back into the Google Nest app?
