Nest devices not populating in the google home app post migration

Charlie33
Community Member

I have successfully migrated my nest account to google.  I have signed into nest with my google account successfully.  the google home app shows my different homes, but does not populate my devices.  as a test i have deleted one camera from the nest app and tried to add it to the google home, but failed.  I was successful in reconnecting the camera back to the nest app, which is signed in through google - I know this as my yahoo email that was originally used for the nest was changed to my google email account.

Please help!

Thanks

Maybe there are some glitches or lag time when you migrate and have multiple Google Nest "homes/structures".

In recent months, some thermostat customers who installed a thermostat in the Google Nest app found that it was not AUTOMATICALLY appearing in the Google Home app, as it should.

Many of these customers have successfully tried this workaround: In the Google Nest app, add an additional Google Nest "home/structure". Go to that new and empty Google Nest "home/structure" in the Google Home app and delete it. For these customers, this action seems to force the 2 apps to sync, and their thermostat then appears in the Google Home app.

Perhaps you could try the same workaround, and see if it forces your 2 apps to sync and gets your devices to appear in the Google Home app.

I tried the workaround that you suggested and it did not change the outcome.  Please if anyone else has recommendations I would really appreciate the input!

@Charlie33

I have a couple of comments and a question or two.

When you deleted one of your cameras from the Google Nest app, the reason you could not install it in the Google Home app is because our older cameras and doorbells can ONLY be installed in the Google Nest app.

If you migrated successfully, you should no longer be able to log into the Google Nest app with the Yahoo email credentials you used previously.

Are you logging onto the Google Nest app using "Sign in with Google", and are you using the exact same Google Account credentials you are using to log onto the Google Home app? Do you see the exact same Google Nest "homes/structures" in both apps?

Here is a Google Nest Help topic on migration issues:

Yes, I am logging into the nest app using "sign in with google" and am using my gmail as the log in credentials.  same for both apps.  I have three different "homes/ structures".  I see all three of them in both apps.  once i added the fake "home/ structure". I saw it in the google home app, however and this is my mistake, that i was not clear on.  it will not allow me to delete it in the google home app.  It continually gives me an error saying that "Problem connecting to cloud.  please try again later".

@Charlie33

The "Problem connecting to cloud" error when trying to delete that "home/structure" is weird, especially on top of the fact that you can't see any of your devices in the Google Home app. Google Nest's suggestions for your situation are mostly to "force close" both the Google Nest app and the Google Home app. (Maybe it's worth making sure you have the latest version of both apps, or reinstalling both apps.) They also suggest that you go to your Google Account in a browser using the link they provide, where you should see "Nest" listed for your account.  See the screen capture at the end of this post. The help page link is below:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9297676#troubleshoot-migration&zippy=%2Ci-dont-see-all-...

If you don't see "Nest" listed and can't resolve it, perhaps it's worth contacting Support, using the link and instructions on the post below, to see if there's something out-of-wack with your Google Account on Google Nest's servers. Perhaps there is something they could do to jog or reset your account.

Ok, so I have logged into my google account on my home computer (mac) and got into the screen that was shown above.   Under security and 3rd party apps.  i see nest in there, however i do not see anything in the google home app when i log into it.  I then closed the apps and re-opened them and still nothing..  i can post the screenshot of the google page showing the nest app if its necessary..

@Charlie33

You could try deleting and reinstalling the Google Nest app and the Google Home app on your phone. (You do NOT lose any data when you do that.)

If that does not work, I think there may be something messed up on your account on Google Nest's servers. You are logging onto both apps with the same Google Account, and you see the same Google Nest "homes" in both but no devices in the Google Home app. And you can create a "home" in the Google Nest app but cannot delete it in the Google Home app. That's not right.

Maybe Support can fix the problem on their servers. You can use the link and instructions on the post below to reach Support:

Hi, I did get in touch with google support and they elevated it a couple times to a senior support agent and they still couldn’t figure it out.  They said that they were going to have engineering look at it and get back.  So still not resolved. Thanks for checking in.
