NestCam with Floodlight

I installed a NestCam with floodlight. The cam is working fine but the floodlight is either on or off with no connection  to the motion sensor. What do I need to do for the light to turn on only in response to motion?

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand that you recently installed a Nest Cam with Floodlight; while the camera is working great, the lights are turning on and off without any detected motion. Let me share some information to help you resolve this.

Typically, this behavior occurs when the motion sensor's sensitivity is set too high. You can easily adjust this in the Google Home app to prevent the lights from triggering unnecessarily. To find the ideal setting, we recommend testing it after dark: choose a sensitivity level and walk past the camera to see when the lights activate. A higher sensitivity will trigger the lights from further away, while a lower sensitivity will require activity to be closer to the device. To adjust these settings, please follow these steps:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Favorites or Devices and touch and hold your device's tile.
  • Tap Settings (the gear icon) and select What turns on the floodlight.
  • Ensure the switch for Motion is on.
  • Adjust the Motion sensitivity to High, Medium, or Low.
