Unable to link Nest Hub to account

I am trying to set up a Nest Hub for my mother who has moved into a retirement home. I can get the hub to connect to the wifi network, but it will not connect to the Home app on my cell phone (Android) or to an iPad. Therefore I am unable to set up routines so she can use the device. I think the problem is related to security on the wifi network which seems to be blocking access to the hub and other devices.

How can I get the hub to complete the setup so we can make use of it?

You might not be able to do what you want to do. It depends on the retirement home's Wi-Fi setup; if they have one Wi-Fi network for the whole home, it may not work. You would need to set up a separate Google Nest "home/structure" in the Google Home app for your mother's retirement home, but their security may not allow it. You'd have to talk to whoever administer's the retirement home's Wi-Fi.

It's not like your home Wi-Fi network, where your household members are the only ones on the network and you control security on the network.

Hey there,

Thanks for sharing your insights on this matter, MplsCustomer!

VeraDietz, additional to what mentioned above, you can ask the network administrator if they can add the MAC Address of your Google Nest Hub. If it's not possible, you can use a mobile hotspot in setting your mother's device or use a portable router for her personal use.

Hope this information help.

Best,

Alex
