Unexpected response from server on google home app

Hello, 
I'm trying to set up a new Google tv and it is asking me to connect via the Google Home app. When I log in to my account, it immediately gives me the "Unexpected response from server on google home app" message. I've tried deleting and reloading the app, deleting and reentering my account, and creating a new email address and logging on with that one. Nothing is working. I'm in Canada and working with iOS. Could you please help?

That certainly hasn't been easy for you — let me see what we can do.

 

To make sure, are you trying to set up a Chromecast with Google TV? Have you tried setting it up using the Voice Remote? If not, give these steps a try:

 

  1. Power on the TV.
  2. Plug the Chromecast into an HDMI port on the TV or other display device.
  3. Switch the TV to the HDMI input the Chromecast is plugged into.
  4. On the TV screen, Start Pairing will appear. If Chromecast and the voice remote do not automatically pair, press and hold the Back button and the Home button . A white pulsing light will appear on the remote.
  5. From the language menu, select a language.
  6. When asked to get the Google Home app, press d-pad Down to access the alternate setup with the Chromecast voice remote.
  7. Select a Wi-Fi network.
  8. Enter password.
  9. After Chromecast connects to Wi-Fi, it will download a system update.
  10. Sign in with a Google account and enter the password.
  11. Read through Google’s Term of Service, Privacy Policy, and Play Terms of Service.
