1st gen doorbell comes online for a few minutes then back to offline mode

have a 1st gen wired doorbell that has worked well for several years but recently it has switched to always showing as offline in the app. Power supply is not an issue and WiFi coverage is perfect. It works fine for nearby devices. I've rested, restarted and it works for a few minutes before going offline. I've even tried to move it to various locations. Router is 20 ft away. When it says offline the green dot light is on. I've replaced it with a 2nd gen wired and that works perfectly fine with no issues.

Hi jkbestul,

Uh-oh! If your 1st gen Nest Hello doorbell is consistently going offline after a few minutes, despite having a stable power supply and good Wi-Fi coverage, there could be a few potential causes for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check for service issues.
  2. Check for possible Nest or Google Home app issues.
  3. Go back to the access point.
    • Ensure that your Wi-Fi network is operating on a 2.4 GHz frequency. The 1st gen Nest Hello doorbell is not compatible with 5 GHz networks. Additionally, make sure that your network's security settings, such as MAC address filtering or firewall settings, are not blocking the doorbell's connection.
  4. Check if the device is connected to an extender or secondary access point.
    • If no, try to remove materials on top of, between, or around the access point that may interfere with the signal.
    • If yes, connect the device directly from the main access point.
  5. Try to temporarily connect the device to a mobile data hotspot.
    • To try to isolate issues with your home Wi-Fi network, disconnect your smartphone from your home Wi-Fi network and enable hotspot tethering using your phone's mobile data connection.

I hope these suggestions help you resolve the connectivity problem with your 1st gen Nest Hello doorbell.

Best,

Zoe
