2nd Gen indoor wired nest cam failing to factory reset.

Kusumid
Community Member

2nd Gen, indoor, wireless nest cam.

Using Google Home.

Trying to get my three cameras to connect to my wifi as the router had been upgraded by my ISP.

I have tried on two different cameras to no avail.

Using the hole in the face of the camera, I've inserted the threadhole end of a needle and pressed with a thimble.

Light stays green no matter how long or hard I press. Have also tried flipping the needle around to perform the reset and I fail to actually feel any button or switch being pressed when using the needle point.

Regardless, no factory reset occurs.

When unplugging and plugging back in, the light will be white momentarily before going solid green. Nothing I do gets a yellow orange light or blue pulsing light to show up.

Hi Kusumid,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing with us what you've done. For you to properly reset your Nest cameras to the factory default, just hit this link. Also, do not forget to remove them first from your Google Home app then re-add it.

Keep us posted.

Thanks,
Emerson

Sorry, been quite busy with work and family. Been out of town for a couple weeks. I will post an update on Friday whether I am successful.

Are the 2nd Gen cameras able to work on wifi that is not 2.4ghz?

I tried to use an actual paperclip and hold for 20 seconds.

I've held it down for longer than that even, and still no success on resetting.

Is there anything else I can attempt?

Hello Kusumid,

Thanks for giving us your update and for trying to do the steps. You might want to take a look at the light sequence during reset.

Try following the steps here:

  • Insert a paper clip, thumbtack or similar into the hole. Press and hold down.
  • At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
  • At 12 seconds, the status light will be solid yellow. When the camera begins resetting, you’ll hear a confirmation tone.
  • Release the button. Your camera will restore to its factory settings.
  • After the factory reset, your camera will appear as “Offline” in the app until you remove it.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,
Emerson

Unfortunately, no yellow light or countdown tones ever occur.

But this is happening for all three of my nest cameras. Must be something I'm doing wrong, despite how simple this is...

Hello Kusumid,

We appreciate you getting back to us. Try charging it with a USB cable and wait for the light status to come on. When you see the light try resetting it to the factory default and observe the light status.

Keep us posted.

Best,
Emerson
