2nd Gen wired Nest doorbell won't reset

Newbie11

Moved into a new home which has a 2nd Gen wired Nest doorbell. I'm trying to do a factory reset so I can add it to my home on the Nest app.

I have tried the method of holding the doorbell button while a pin is inserted into the small hole in the back and what happens is immediately, not waiting 10 seconds, the ring flashes yellow and there is a 4 note chime. When I try to add the device it fails with a message saying the WiFi password is incorrect, which it isn't!

Any suggestions please?

Hi Newbie11,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand that you've moved into a new home that has a Nest Doorbell (2nd gen, wired), and you can't add it because it's showing an error message about an incorrect WiFi password. I appreciate your efforts in trying to factory reset it. Help is here!

Based on the information you shared, it seems your Nest doorbell didn't factory reset correctly and wasn't added to the right app. Here's the correct process for adding it:

  • Factory reset
  • Add the device using the Google Home app (as this is a 2nd gen Nest doorbell):
    • Tap Settings Settings.
    • Tap Add Add and then choose a device.
    • Choose the type of device to set up and follow the onscreen steps.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Rusell.
