5 suggestions to address Google Nest camera issues


1. If Google is determined to phase out the Google Nest app in favor of the Google Home app, simply change the "Cameras" option in the Google Home app so it brings up the current Google Nest app interface within the Google Home app.

2. Add the new 2021 Google Nest cameras and doorbells to that same Google Nest app interface, with all of the functionality of previous Google Nest cameras and doorbells.

3. Add the new 2021 Google Nest cameras and doorbells to the website interface.

4. Provide a simple, workable process to allow users to update the SSID and password for a camera or doorbell when a user has to change or update their WiFi router (one that does not involve removing the camera or doorbell and doing a factory reset).

5. Provide a simple, workable option to allow users to enter an SSID and password when adding a new camera or doorbell if the built-in use of an "assisting device" does not work.

I'm all for #4! But not so much the rest. I get where Google is going, but honestly, I would prefer everything under one app (Google Home). Since all my other devices are under the Google Home app, including 30 lights and 5 Chromecasts, and a variety of other "works with Google" stuff, I would prefer Google to enhance the Google home app to include the features of the original Nest app. They are already coming out with a "" that will have the same web interface as the app (next year), and hopefully they will add functionality to the Google Home app like scheduling, etc. for the cameras. But, adding things back to the Nest environment (like cameras only), would not be helpful since they would still have to maintain 2 environments.

I own a custom software engineering company, and the first thing we always do; is interview our clients (users and managers), and ask them to list everything they like about their current software, and what they don't like, and what they would like. Then, we take everything they currently like, enhance all the things they didn't like and add they things they want. I have no idea why Google released these cameras and didn't build a better mousetrap so that people would WANT to migrate. Really bad leadership and management.

I would be quite happy if, as you suggest, Google enhanced the Google Home app to include the features of the original Nest app, came out with a "" web interface that included the features of the "" web interface, and added functionality to the Google Home app like scheduling.  It's a nuisance to use two apps just for our cameras.

Sadly, I don't trust them to migrate the features of the NEST app to the Google Home app.  I fear they will take it all in a new direction and loose all the elegant and refined design of the NEST app that I have spent so much time learning and getting use to and give us something that is clunky and not well thought out.   And even if they do I fear it is 12 months away.  I hope I'm wrong.   They way they seem to release product always has "the devil in the details". 



I have submitted Feedback online regarding the Google Nest Battery Camera and the fact that it does not work with the Google Nest app or the website and that as a result it lacks many of the capabilities of our existing Google Nest cameras and doorbells. I have also submitted feedback via U.S. mail to Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Google Nest VP Rich Chandra. I've also provided feedback in this forum--along with many other Google Nest customers.

However, no one at Google has responded--except with rather vague promises in this forum about doing something in the future: "...we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app." So, for the last 3+ months and for the foreseeable future, in our house we are using the Google Nest app for our existing Google Nest cameras and doorbells and the Google Home app for our one new Google Nest Battery Camera. I would suggest that this is not, as Mr. Chandra has asserted, "...a whole home view and history of your camera and doorbell feeds across all Nest cameras."

Hi MplsCusstomer, Thank you for doing all that.  I am shocked at how awful this whole experience has been with the new google nest cams.  And I am a long time user of the nest cameras.   I returned my new cams and have purchased previous gen cams off of ebay and I'm happy with that for now.  If and when Google gets their act together then I will re-evaluate.  But honestly I don't see the Google Home app ever getting anywhere near as good as the Nest app.  I have started purchasing some other competitors products to try and will consider moving off the Goole platform for good if I find one that I like a lot. So far the Eufy products are pretty impressive.  AND when I contact Eufy tech support I actually get an answer often in less than 24 hours and it is a quality answer... not just google-speak.
