Another wireless nest cam no live video

Hello, I bought a three pack of these a few months ago and up until about a week ago they have been working fine. I’m using them with an AMPLIFI mesh network and viewing the cameras primarily on an iPhone.

About a week ago the live video stopped functioning for no apparent reason. I still get alerts with video after the fact. This appears to be a fairly common issue, I read several threads and tried the most common fixes with no change. This includes:

-power cycle cameras

-restart phone

-restart router & modem

-setup a dedicated 2.4ghz network for the cameras

-factory reset/ reinstall cameras

- re-setup my home in google app (that was fun, resetting and reinstalling thermostats, protects, lights, etc…)

-lots of swearing and probably a few other technical things I’m forgetting.

Still no live video after all that and I’m looking for some help on where to go from here. Thanks

@hotrod2448

Are you able to view the camera's feed on the new preview / beta site, https://home.google.com?

Nope. Blue pinwheel like it’s thinking about it for a while and then it reverts back to the camera landing page.

@hotrod2448

You've bent over backwards trying to fix this, but my guess is that the fixes really don't get at whatever is causing the issue.

Today I got one camera to show live video for a short period. It took roughly 30 attempts across the three cameras for that to happen and I’ve been unsuccessful with multiple attempts after.

I guess if there is no real solution to this I’ll be returning them to Costco and cancelling my Nest Aware subscription. What a disappointment.

What's happening to you deserves an explanation from Google Nest. I tried turning off the power to our one Google Nest Camera (Battery), and am able to select and get live video from my iPad. If I go to https://home.google.com on our iMac, the panel for that camera comes up blank with a "Live video" button in the middle but if I click that button I get live video. (All of our other cameras and doorbells are wired and live.)

The behavior you're seeing is so different that it seems something somewhere is simply blocking access to live video for all three of your cameras. Or they are all defective.

Does anyone know what network port(s) these cameras need for live video?

Hi folks,

I’m sorry for the trouble and I appreciate your efforts here. Let’s figure this out — we have recommended router settings for your Nest cameras.

Ports for Firewall:

  • 80 for HTTP
  • 443 for HTTPS
  • 9543 for TCP/UDP
  • 11095 for TCP/UDP
  • 1935 for TCP/UDP

You may set these ports in your router settings or reach out to your internet service provider to do it for you. Have a look at this article and let me know if there’s anything else: Update Wi-Fi network and router settings.

I appreciate your help, MplsCustomer.

Thanks,

JT

Thanks for the info.

I opened all the ports for all three camera. One camera went live on the first try afterward. None of the others did and even the one that initially worked has not worked since.

I am puzzled by why Google Nest is suggesting mucking around with various port settings.

We have an Xfinity router/modem, and 2 Linksys routers configured to serve as access points; the only settings we've changed are to set the SSID and password, and specify the Wi-Fi channels for the 3 routers so they don't overlap. We don't have any issues with live video on any of our cameras or doorbells--old or new.

To be fair they didn’t originally suggest it. I had my an issue with my Tivo needing a port opened up recently and it got me wondering. So I started down that road on my own.

Magically today without changing anything they are able to display live video again. I’ve been able to see live video while connected to my network and while on 5G away from home. I wish I knew what changed but, I’ll take it.
