Battery doorbell delay

Why is there such a delay on receiving a notifications when someone presses the doorbell? It can take anywhere between 2-4 minutes, and by that time the person has gone! This is for notifications received on iPhone, apple watch, 2*nest mini's. This renders the doorbell completely useless. Can you please fix this.

There are a few reasons why there might be a delay in receiving notifications when someone presses the Nest doorbell.

  • Your internet connection: If your internet connection is slow or unstable, it can take longer for the notification to be sent to your devices.
  • The Nest doorbell itself: If the Nest doorbell is not working properly, it may not be able to send notifications to your devices. You can try restarting the doorbell.

Have you tried any of these?

Thanks but I have super fast internet (500/500), which is faultless, and the doorbell does notify all my devices, it just takes ages! I tried it again 5 mins ago, and after pressing button on the doorbell, it took 2m40 secs to notify me via my nest mini’s and my phone. I love the idea, but it’s really useless as it is so slow.

Similar thing is happening to me, although it's more like, 15-30 seconds delay.

I have the same issue since I've bought the doorbell. There is always around 5-10 seconds delay before the Nest Mini chime is started. It's very annoying and through search on this forum and other websites I see this has been a problem for at least a year now and Google is not doing anything. Totally not recommending Google Nest Doorbells to anyone

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out.  Is the issue happening with push notifications or both email and push? Do you all receive push notifications on multiple devices? Also, are your mobile devices connected to a network?

Could you all try to connect the mobile device to another Wi-Fi or cellular network? Signing in to your account on another mobile device and triggering a notification to test might also help isolate this.

Thanks for the help here, Cal26.

Juni

Delay happens on ALL our devices - 2x Pixel 7 Pro phones which are owned by different people so have different Google accounts (both when connected to WiFi or mobile data) and also 2x Nest Mini speakers in the house. Delay happens with all notifications, so "person seen" popups on the phones and "bing bong! someone is at the front door" messages from the speakers.

Again, this has only started happening in the last couple of months, and nothing has changed in the house or with the network in that time. Have restarted the phones, speakers, and doorbell multiple times but no change. Have also restarted the router but no change. In my mind, this indicates the problem lies elsewhere - either an issue with the doorbell firmware (has there been a recent change?) or at the Nest end of the system. From looking on here there are also lots of people having the same issue, so it's clearly not just me, my phone, my speaker, or my network.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the details you shared. Try connecting your doorbell to another network and observe if this will make a difference.

I look forward to your responses.

Thanks,

Juni

And how do we connect them to another network?  I have ONE wireless network.  To reiterate, the delay has happened in the last couple of months, and NOTHING has changed with the wireless network.  Yes, I've restarted the router, and the doorbell, and the phones, and the Nest Mini speakers.  I can't just magic up another wireless network.

Hi Pete_L,

Got it. If you have mobile data on your phone you can use that as a source of network to isolate if its a network concern. Let me know how it goes by updating this thread.

Tried that. Delays happening regardless of device and irrespective of whether I'm connected via WiFi or mobile data.

Please note this is happening on FOUR devices here alone - notifications are delayed on 2x Pixel 7 Pros, and 2x Nest Mini speakers. Notifications arrive simultaneously on all four devices, including if the phone(s) are on mobile data and not WiFi. Common demoninator is the doorbell / its firmware / Nest's notification processing.

And of course this issue is happening to a lot of people by the look of this community, so it's not an issue with my network either.

That's odd. I was told by someone on here that my form had been received, so someone is telling fibs.

Delay has improved this week, possibly due to a firmware update on the doorbell which has also brightened the image. Delay is now about 5 seconds.

No solution, no fix for doorbell notification delay.
I believe Google has updated their motto from 'Do no evil' to "There's no money in fixing bugs"
