Battery powered Nest Camera will not charge when wired

I have two battery powered nest outdoor cameras and they struggle to connect to the OEM charging cable. I think my  cable may have a short in it or the camera isn't liking the plug system.  it has always been like this since new. Any suggestions?

Oh no! Let’s see what’s going on — a few questions: when did the issue start? Have you tried to plug your cameras to a different power outlet? Does the USB cable fit snugly into the port on the adapter? Also, are there any kinks or frays in the cable?
