Battetry nest cam not recoring unless wired

Hi, can't seem to find the issue.

Just purchased a set of 3 battery power nest cams, and after installing them, I found out that if it's not powered by cable, it will stay idle and not record any event.

I did try going in front of the camera and waving for a good 30 sec and it doesn't wake up but as soon as it has its plug-in it's recording me. it also picks me up when I'm live viewing from the app,

Did try every setting I could find but nothing seems to work.

What's the point of wireless battery power cams if they need to be wired to do the most important function?

Thank you

We've had the battery camera for almost 4 years, plugged in with the optional power cable. When we've unplugged it to test how it works in battery mode, it usually does not wake up from "Idle" mode to record someone walking right in front of the camera. We purchased it only because Google Nest discontinued its wired Google Nest Outdoor Cameras.

Hi Warthrend,

Thanks for reaching out to the community and to @MplsCustomer for jumping in! I’m sorry to hear that your Nest Cam outdoor or indoor (battery) units are not recording any events, even when you're standing in front of them for about 30 seconds. They only record when they’re plugged in. I appreciate all your efforts and the steps you’ve taken. I’m here to help!

To isolate the root cause of this inconvenience, I have some questions for you:

  • What is the battery percentage for each of your Nest cameras in the Google Home app?
  • Are you using the original cable included in the box to charge your Nest cameras?
  • Was the wake-up sensitivity feature adjusted? Visit our helpful article to learn more about it: Save battery for Nest cameras and doorbells
  • Is your Google Home app updated? Please check out the following link for your reference: Update the Google Home app

Please keep me posted.

Regards,
Juan
